Sushi!

Aloha!
Another delicious eatery-post for everyone tonight !

We went to Sushi Sugoi tonight for the first time, and the experience (minus the service) was exquisite. I'm a big fan of japanese food, both traditional and western, and I would love to go back next time.

Beef Tataki
I'm use to a sauce that is more citrus like, which this was not. But was still very good and tender!

Magma Roll
Content: Unagi eel, pollock crabmeat, cucumber, avocado, spicy mayo, siracha hot sauce
This roll was surprisingly delicious. I say surprisingly because I am not an eel fan.

Fuji Island Roll
Content: Salmon, tuna, avocado, pineapple, orange, and soybean paper
This roll was de-licious. So good. So fresh. So refreshing. I will for sure be getting this again.
The part I enjoyed the most about this roll was that it so light and refreshing - a change from other rolls that had a lot of fish or a lot of sauce. The soybean paper was extremely delicate. You basically let it touch your lips and it comes off! No pulling/ taring required!

Rising Sun Roll
Content: Red tuna (normally Ahi Tuna), avocado, tempura shrimp
This roll is a little less extravagent as the previous two, but no doubt still delicious. They didn't have Ahi Tuna tonight, so we settled for the Red Tuna replacement. There was also a little bit of sauce to garnish the roll, just enough to give it a bit of extra taste

I'm planning on going to try out another new Japanese restaurant on Wednesday, so be prepared for lots of sushi posts!!

Cheers!

My Favourite Breakfast Smoothie

Aloha!

So I know there's been a big lack of health and fitness related posts, simply because not much is happening. Sometimes, we need to take a break from things to realize how much we like it, love it, and enjoy it.

Today I wanted to share with you guys my new favourite breakfast smoothie

This smoothie isn't one that has a lot of protein in it, but I love it because it's so sweet and refreshing, without any added sugar besides what's in there from the fruit and the rice milk (yes, rice milk!)

In this blender:

12-15 small frozen, organic strawberries
3/4 cup fresh blueberries
~4/5 cup vanilla rice milk

You don't need to put any ice in it, unless you want a super thick texture. The frozen strawberries already give it a thick-ish run.

This is the rice milk that I use. I had a protein smoothie from a gym with rice milk in it one time, so I decided to try it out myself but minus the protein. As you can see, it turned out well! This rice milk is a good source of calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin B12.

Finished product :

Try it out and tell me what you guys think!

Cheers!

An Early 21st Celebration Dinner

Aloha everyone !

So last night, a few friends of mine and my boyfriend went out to a little cozy, Italian restaurant to celebrate my early 21st birthday.

What's a party without a selfie!

A friend's college of her veal canelloni, tiramisu dessert, wine with our pasta, and of course, my boyfriend and I :)

We cutie pies :)

Just a quick recap of what my day was like :) No, I haven't been eating super well. No, I haven't been going to the gym. But I've been trying to do my best to feel good about myself and enjoy myself at the same time :) That's what's important to me!

Weekend Vacation

Aloha readers!

Like always, I've been busy busy with work (worked 11 days out of the 14 days), and right after that I packed my bags and went out of town with my boyfriend.

I have been planning this trip for quite a few weeks now, and I was so excited to finish work and get out of town. Almost like a couples retreat, weekend getaway.

A quick recap of the trip:

We went down Friday afternoon, and had dinner at Cattle Baron. It was my first time there, and it was actually really good. Food was reasonably priced, and the quality of the food was pretty good!

I had a 7 oz Filet Mingon with a side of Jumbo Prawn. At the table, we also shared a skillet of pan-fried mushrooms in a vinegareete sauce, and a Mac and Cheese Au Gratin. My boyfriend had a 16 oz T-Bone steak with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of veggies.

On Saturday, we went down to the Calgary Stampede for the first time.
Being an Edmontonian, I actually had a lot more fun than I expected at the Stampede. We couldn't afford the super expensive Rodeo tickets, but we still wanted to check it out!
Turns out, we can buy $15 tickets for standing room viewing! It was burning hot in the sun, but it was a nice experience.

The day also included a few beers at the beer garden, some game playing and gambling, and a whoooooole lot of food! I had been trying to eat fairly well the past few weeks because I knew I was going to over indulge at the festival - and that's exactly what I did.
Although I didn't get to try the maple glazed dought bacon cheeseburger :(  , I was still able to enjoy a lot of other foods in and out of the carnival.

Crab Cake Eggs Benny at Ricky's

Char-boiled Shrimp and Chicken Vermicelli dish from VietNam just off the Fairgrounds

Lobster Eggs Benedict from The Park Kitchen and Bar - probably the best meal (best breakfast for sure) I had this weekend. A little side of oranges and grapefruit, crispy hashbrowns, and a delicious eggs benny made with free range chicken eggs.

(Sorry for the gross picture)
How did I know it was free range chicken egg? I asked xD The egg was much more orange that the yolks I'm used to, so I asked out of curiosity. The great thing about this restaurant is that they strive to buy locally, grown and raised food and livestock. I can definitely see myself going back there next time I'm in town.

Some very memorable parts of the trip was when I had a glass of wine (which never happens because I don't drink wine) and shared a plate of yummy curry chicken pasta with my beloved boyfriend. As well as viewing The Grandstand Show.

How we came upon tickets for that is kind of funny: we were sitting at the Wine Garden, talking to the people who were passing around. This one lady approached us and tried to sell us these free tickets that she got from work. Unfortunately, the deal wasn't made. However, about half an hour later she came back and just offered the tickets to us for free! Such a nice thing for that lady to do.

Wineeeeeeeeeee

We a cute couple :)

The view of the fireworks right from our seats at the show :)

Overall, had a great blast this weekend! I look forward to more weekend getaways and heading back to Cow Town soon :)

Post-Canada Day Update (07/02)

Aloha readers!
Sorry I haven't updated much the past week - I've been busy busy with work, trying to schedule time for doing my studying, and of course - enjoying some outdoors and sunshine with my family and loved ones over the Canada day celebration.

I haven't been able to make it to the gym yet this week, but I'm not beating myself up over it. As much as I would love for my life to revolve completely around fitness, it's not. And it shouldn't be. I have to make time for all the other things and people i love and enjoy spending time with. That's what I want my life to be like.

Doing the Chalene Johnson 30 Day Challenge (Currently on Day 8) has really made me think about my goal setting, my time management, and goal mastery - the goals that I have set and completed in the past. I'm really enjoying learning all of these new concepts, and I hope to apply it to my real life as a daily habit :)

So yesterday was Canada day, and I spent the day with my boyfriend and his family. We went out to Pigeon lake for some fishing bright and early in the morning, then the rest of his family joined us for some water tubing, wakeboarding, and water skiing. First time I ever tried water tubing - and I was SCARED but had a BLAST. And by blast I mean a ridicuously bad sunburn on my forehead, my nose, my back, and my knees

Here are a few pictures to recap the amazing day I had with them <3
